Are You Experiencing a Mold Problem in Your Home?

Mold is a multi-cellular fungus, like mushrooms and yeast. Mold can be different colors, and look fuzzy, slimy, or powdery, and often has a musty odor.

Mold requires three things to grow:

  • Water/Moisture
  • Organic food source (paper, fabric, sheetrock)
  • Humidity

The presence of mold is a result of too much moisture in a certain area of your home.

Excess moisture can be caused by:

  • Plumbing leaks
  • Leaking roofs or windows
  • High humidity
  • Flooding
  • Condensation due to poor ventilation or Insulation

What To Do Next

New York State requires a mold assessment be performed prior to any professional remediation over 10 square feet. This assessment must be performed by a licensed NYS mold assessor. An assessment or a mold remediation plan is a document prepared by a mold assessor. It identifies mold and serves as a guide for the cleanup project. It says what must be done, how it is to be done, and how you will be able to tell if all of the mold has been removed.
