New York State requires a mold assessment be performed prior to any remediation over 10 square feet.

This assessment must be performed by a licensed NYS mold assessor. An assessment or a mold remediation plan is a document prepared by a mold assessor. It identifies mold and serves as a guide for the cleanup project. It says what must be done, how it is to be done, and how you will be able to tell if all of the mold has been removed.

Got Mold?

You can usually see or smell a mold problem. Mold can also appear as slightly fuzzy, discolored, or slimy patches that increase in size as they grow. Most molds produce musty odors that are the first indication of a problem.

Mold requires three things to grow, water/moisture, organic food source and proper temperature. The presence of mold means there is too much moisture.

Moisture problems can be caused by plumbing leaks, leaking roofs or windows, high humidity, condensation due to poor ventilation, or insulation, and flooding.

Mold can grow in as little as 24-48 hours.
